Quality Improvement through Mentoring & Periodic Assessments in Rajasthan

The Norway India Partnership Initiative (NIPI) team, in collaboration with state government officials, regularly conducts periodic assessments and mentoring visits to strengthen various facility and community-level Child Health interventions. During these visits, gaps in the functioning of Family Participatory Care (FPC) Centres, developed by the state for small and sick newborns are identified, and action plans are jointly developed with local teams to ensure optimal performance.

In January and February 2025, the NIPI team visited district hospitals in Bharatpur, Salumbar, Shapura, and Alwar. Performance was assessed using a standardized tool checklist designed for Special Newborn Care Units (SNCUs) and FPCs. Additionally, a state-level SQCI-SNCU Quality of Care Index was generated for each unit, and key performance indicators were reviewed with the SNCU in-charge and their team.

Following these visits, a formal feedback letter was sent to the respective district Principal Medical Officers, requesting an Action Taken Report on the key gaps identified. These mentoring visits play a crucial role in addressing clinical and managerial challenges, ultimately enhancing the quality of care in SNCUs and FPCs across Rajasthan.
