BackEnhancing COVID-19 care with Updated Treatment Protocols
In wake of the increasing COVID-19 cases being reported in India as well as in Bihar, the importance of adhering to the recommended treatment protocols at such a time of medical emergency was well-understood by health strategists in Bihar. During this second wave, large number of COVID-19 positive patients are seeking admission in health facilities in a critical condition. Managing this huge influx of cases has proved to be a challenge for the existing staff at these health facilities. Despite the treatment protocols being constantly updated, a bigger challenge, felt by state of Bihar, is ensuring their speedy dissemination amongst health care providers at all levels of COVID care to enable them to provide more evidence-based treatment and care.
The aim of the state government is to ensure that all providers engaged in COVID care are abreast with updated disease evidence and evolving treatment protocols to ensure delivery of most scientific and effective care. Hence as a first step, a statewide virtual training program on COVID-19 treatment protocols was organized using a webinar approach, in a phased manner, with support from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi for the senior health care providers and health officials of the Medical Colleges and all districts.
NIPI Bihar acted as in organizing this webinar in collaboration with State Health Society, Bihar. NIPI Bihar state team coordinated with the trainers and trainees from various facilities through virtual platform. NIPI team members, as part of the State Task Force moderated and supported the trainers during each training session.
The training was organized in four batches with batches held on 26th April, 28th April, 3rd and 5th May 2021. More than 650 medical and para-medical personnel were trained in these four batches.
COVID 19 is evolving with each passing day and scientific community constantly keeps updating the knowledge with inclusion of new findings on this dynamic disease. The importance of upgrading and updating medical fraternity’s competency periodically on this novel disease is of prime importance. These webinars were a small, yet important step towards achieving this goal.
